Macau’s Transformation: From Kerosene Trader to Casino Tycoon Ho’s journey from a humble kerosene trader to a casino tycoon transformed Macau into the global gambling capital, surpassing even Las Vegas. His casinos became glittering hubs of entertainment, attracting high rollers, celebrities, and thrill-seekers from around the world. The Grand Lisboa, with its distinctive lotus-shaped architecture, stood as a testament to Ho’s grand vision. Beyond gambling, Ho diversified his empire. He had seventeen children from various marriages, and his wealth was divided among them. His daughter, Pansy Ho, owned MGM Macau; fourth wife Angela Leong managed SJM Holdings, and son Lawrence Ho owned City of Dreams. The family dynamics, intertwined with business interests, often played out in public view. In his later years, Ho faced health challenges, including a stroke in 2009. He gradually relinquished control of his financial empire to his wives and children.
