Independent MP Andrew Wilkie says the damning report handed down to Crown Resorts will not block the company from ever receiving a casino license, however, the issues highlighted in the investigation means it will need a complete "cleanout". He praised Commissioner Patricia Bergin – who handed down the recommendations – saying she “tried hard to look into the soul of crown and work out what was going on”. “She has left the door ajar for Crown to still get a license for Barangaroo but it’s going to take such deep and systemic reform I think it will be hard for them to achieve. “Of course, this also calls into question whether they’re fit and proper to be running a casino in Melbourne and Perth”. Mr Wilkie told Sky News it was still possible for Crown to apply for and receive a casino license if the proper reform was brought about, but warned against underestimating the “size of the problem”. “I mean Commissioner Bergin has made it very clear it’s an arrogant company with problems right from the top,” he said. “Realistically, the board needs to be cleaned out, senior management needs to be cleaned out, James Packer needs to either sell out or there needs to be a firewall put between him and the company. “The company is deeply not up to the job.”
